Frequently Asked Questions

The Ofsted registration process typically takes between 6 and 12 months from initial application to approval, though this can vary depending on the complexity of your application, the readiness of your premises, and how quickly Ofsted is able to process your case. Our consultation service helps you prepare thoroughly to avoid unnecessary delays.

Ofsted requires that the Registered Manager of a children's home holds a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and has relevant experience working with children. However, the Registered Provider (the owner of the home) does not need direct care experience — though having a strong understanding of the sector is invaluable. INSPORT can guide both new entrants and experienced practitioners through the process.

The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the accompanying Quality Standards cover nine key areas: the quality and purpose of care; children's views, wishes and feelings; education; enjoyment and achievement; health and wellbeing; positive relationships; protection of children; leadership and management; and care planning. INSPORT helps you understand and evidence compliance across all nine areas.

Start-up costs vary significantly depending on whether you're purchasing or leasing a property, your location, the number of places you intend to offer, and the extent of any refurbishment required. As a rough guide, many providers budget between £150,000 and £500,000 for an initial three to four-bed home, including property costs, adaptations, staffing, and operational reserves. Our consultation can help you build a realistic financial plan for your specific situation.

Our peer support groups are facilitated monthly sessions for children's home providers and managers. Each session typically includes a themed discussion on a topic relevant to members, open peer sharing where participants can raise challenges and receive input from the group, and resource or knowledge sharing. Sessions are confidential, supportive, and professionally facilitated by Tsungai and Fadzai.

Absolutely. Many of our clients come to us not at the start of their journey but at a point where they need to strengthen their provision — following an Ofsted outcome, a significant incident, staffing challenges, or simply a desire to improve. Our consultation and training services are equally valuable for established providers looking to raise their standards or maintain an Outstanding rating.
